Darryl L. Lacy’s first published work was the article, “Reflections: Lorraine Hansberry,” which was featured in the November 1984, edition of the Buffalo Challenger. Since the 1984, article, Lacy has been published in numerous periodicals: New York Amsterdam News, The New York Times, Daily News, New York Newsday, New York Beacon, Harlem News, The Village Voice, New York magazine, Theatre Week, Black Masks, The Buffalo Criterion, The Buffalo News, The City Sun, African Connection, Gritz ‘N’ Gravy, Twilight, and the Internet Movie Database.

In 1991, Lacy started DL PUBLISHING and created the newsletter, The DL PRODUCTIONS Bulletin, to promote DARRYL LACY (DL) PRODUCTIONS. The premiere edition, DL PRODUCTIONS Spring 1991 Bulletin Volume 1, Number 1, included articles written by Lacy, who was the publisher and editor, on the January 22, 1991 Showcase; and the DL THEATER production, Day of Absence and President General Marcus Garvey.

The second newsletter, DL PRODUCTIONS Winter 1991 Bulletin, Volume 1, Number 2, included articles written by Lacy, on the July 30, 1991 Showcase; and the DL THEATER production of Home; and the Out-Reach Production’s In Memory of A Friend, which Lacy directed.

The third newsletter, DL PRODUCTIONS 1993 Bulletin, Volume 2, Number 1, included articles written by Lacy, on the DL PRODUCTIONS’ Fifth Anniversary Dinner, which was held May 23, 1992; and the DL THEATER production of To Be Young, Gifted and Black; and Roberto Monticello Productions’ Impromptu, which Lacy directed. The newsletter was distributed to patrons and supporters of DL PRODUCTIONS during its three-year existence.

From 1993 to 2001, Lacy published five editions of The DL MUSIC Review, a report that listed artists, producers, entertainment hosts/commentators, and music entertainment programs selected as most popular of the year.

In celebration of DL PUBLISHING’s twentieth anniversary, it released a calendar for 2012 that highlighted key events of DL PRODUCTIONS, which was celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. DL PUBLISHING released its first book in 2012, Nikki G: A Portrait of Nikki Giovanni in Her Own Words, by Lacy, who received the 2013 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work – Debut Author.
